Barbara Branden, author of The Passion of Ayn Rand, has authorized me to use the following statement by her.

12/26/00 - NY Press interviews Gary Greenberg and Reviews 101 Myth of the Bible
The current issue of NY Press, a New York City weekly newspaper, published a combination interview with Gary Greenberg and book review of 101 Myths of the Bible. The tone was generally positive and has generated some nice feedback.
An excerpt:
I ask Greenberg: Can we not presume that educated, sophisticated adults–most potential readers of a book like this–already know that the Bible is a lot of myth and folklore and legend? Except for fundamentalists, who won’t read a book like this anyway, doesn’t everybody take the Bible with a large grain of salt?
"I think most people, even those who are fairly religious, know that they’ve got problems even with the early parts," he concedes. "What I’m trying to do is present in a very simple, easy-to-understand format the background for the stories."
And he does a pretty good job.

What is the grand lesson to be taken from this? Whether I’m Jewish, Christian, Muslim, whatever I am, what lesson do I take from knowing that almost the entire Old Testament is mythology and fairytale?
"The lesson, basically, is to understand the book as a product of its times, attempting to explain what everybody understood to be history from a particular point of view," Greenberg says. "It’s not a divinely inspired book. There are too many contradictions. But it’s a book that contains a lot of information about where we come from, when you read it properly. For many people, knowing how we came to be, what our cultural roots really are, what our origins are, becomes an important concern. If the goal is to really know what our history is, then we should know accurately what it is. I think what I do is to try to liberate the Bible from theologians."

11/24/00 - 101 Myths of the Bible now shipping to stores
Sourcebooks, the publisher of 101 Myths of the Bible, has advised me that the book has arrived at their warehouse and is now shipping to bookstores. Barnes and Noble on line currently lists the book as in stock for delivery in 1-2 weeks. It should be available at most chain bookstores and can also be purchased on-line at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Borders. The publisher is now in the process of sending out review copies and press releases, and has started booking me on several radio shows. (See speaking engagements above for scheduled appearances.) 8/18/00 - 101 Myths of the Bible should hit bookstores by late October-early November
I have recently spoken with my new publisher, Sourcebooks and they tell me that 101 Myths of the Bible should hit bookstores by late October or early November, assuming everything stays on the current schedule. I'm also pleased to see that the book was given a prominent display in their Fall catalogue. It also looks like they are going ship a large number of promotional copies to the appropriate review sources.

8/01/00 - Moses Mystery and Bible Myth available again
Although The Moses Mystery and The Bible Myth were selling well, the bankruptcy of the publisher, Carol Publishing Company, caused supplies to dry up at the book stores for several months. As a result many people were unable to find copies. (I got e-mail from several of them seeking my help.) Last March, Kensington Books bought out Carol's assets and have made the book available again. The Moses Mystery, which is the hardcover edition, has almost sold out but the remaining copies have been placed with Barnes and Noble. This is not a remainder deal. They sell at the regular price. The Bible Myth, the paperback edition of the book, is more widely available, at Barnes and Noble and at some other dealers. Your best bet is probably Barnes and Noble for either version. You can link to the correct Barnes and Noble page for these books on this site's book page. (Although the two books are essentially the same, The Bible Myth contains a few minor corrections.)
7/25/00 - Portuguese edition of Bible Myth released
I have been recently informed that The Bible Myth has been released in a Portuguese edition by Prefacio, a Portuguese publisher. This is the second foreign language edition. A Greek version of The Moses Mystery was published in 1998. Although the two books are essentially the same, The Bible Myth contains a few minor corrections omitted from The Moses Mystery.
7/20/00 - War of the Werewolf now available
My first novel, War of the Werewolf, is now available. This should be a fun read if your into escapist fiction. It combines the traditional horror genre with the modern political thriller and adds a touch of social satire. It tells the story of two radicals from opposite sides of the political spectrum who have violent plans for America’s future. But fate has dealt a wild card and only Ludwig von Dracula, a descendant of the infamous count, knows how to stop the bloodshed. The book is co-authored with my friend Jerome Tuccille, author of It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand and several best-selling biographies.
The book is a print-on-demand publication, which means that the publisher, Xlibris, prints out individual copies to order, and that means that there will usually be a couple of weeks delay between the time you order and the time you receive the book. However, some dealers try to keep stock on hand for immediate shipping.
I have a special web site for this book and it lists a number of dealers who will take your order. Occasionally some of them might have the book in stock and you can get a fast turn around. The web site also includes a sample chapter, a summary of the story and a description of the main characters. Check it out.
If your local bookstore doesn't have it, they can get it by special order. It should be listed in Books In Print.
5/10/00 – Working on a biography of King David
Sourcebooks, the publisher of my forthcoming 101 Myths of the Bible, has signed me on to do a biography of King David. What, you may ask, do we need another biography of King David for? How many ways can you rewrite the same old biblical story? Glad you asked. You know I don't go for routine write-ups. This will not be the usual biography of King David. It challenges the traditional view that David was a great hero and religious role model. It will portray the real David, the villain buried beneath heavy biblical editing, a tyrant who murdered his way to the top and stifled Israelite freedom along the way. It will probably appear in 2002.
