The Biblical Archaeology Society, based in New York City, is a non-sectarian educational group that presents about ten lectures a year on aspects of ancient Near Eastern archaeology, history and literature. The members are mostly non-professionals who have a strong interest in these fields of study. Many of the speakers at BASNY are scholars from the New York City area. Meetings consist of an optional dinner followed by the evening’s lecture. BASNY is not affiliated with Biblical Archaeology Review or any other organization. Past lecturers have included Lawrence Schiffman, Cyrus Gordon, James Allen, David O’Connor, Ogden Goelet, Robert Stieglitz, and Murray Lichtenstein. Gary Greenberg serves as the current President of the organization. Details on membership, meeting times, cost, and location are presented below. Membership BenefitsMembers receive an occasional newsletter with information on upcoming lectures as well as news about recent events in biblical archeology. They also receive reminders about upcoming meetings, and a substantial discount on lecture fees. Members may also bring an occasional guest who will be charged the member rate for the lecture program. New York City area residents may request that they be placed on the mailing list without becoming a member. They receive the newsletter but not the meeting reminders in the mail, and pay the non-member admission fee for meetings.
